Alan Chau, our General Manager and Home Care Manager, has been an integral part of the Chinese Association of Tower Hamlets since 1996. With his visionary leadership, the organization has experienced continuous growth, employing over 40 dedicated staff members and providing essential services to more than 200 individuals on a weekly basis. Alan’s passion for social welfare led him to qualify as a Social Worker in 2004, where he successfully completed a two-year placement at the Tower Hamlets’ Youth Offending Team and Rethink’s Mental Health Rehabilitation Centre.

Having arrived in the UK three decades ago, Alan pursued his Master’s Degree in Operational Research and Information Systems from the renowned London School of Economics and Political Science. He is also the recipient of a Registered Manager Award in Health and Social Care, showcasing his commitment to excellence in his field. Over the past 20 years, Alan has dedicated himself to improving the well-being of older and disabled individuals within the Chinese community of East London. His experience and expertise have guided the Chinese Association of Tower Hamlets to achieve prestigious accolades, such as the Advice Quality Mark since 2006 and a three-star ‘Excellent’ rating for our Domiciliary Care Service since 2008.

Alan’s unwavering dedication is rooted in his belief that everyone deserves to be treated with respect and kindness, with access to services that empower them to live independent and fulfilling lives. He is a catalyst for positive change, advocating for improved service delivery and fostering strong partnerships with the voluntary sector. With Alan at the helm, we are committed to enhancing the health and well-being of older and disabled individuals in the Chinese community, ensuring they receive the support they need to thrive and reach their full potential.

Mr. Taiqiang Zhang 張太強先生

Mr. Taiqiang Zhang, a distinguished educator, holds a master’s degree in education from Sichuan Normal University in China, which he obtained in 2004. With an impressive teaching career spanning 17 years at a renowned high school in China, Mr. Zhang joined the Chinese School of Tower Hamlets in 2012, bringing with him a wealth of knowledge and pedagogical expertise. In 2016, he further expanded his qualifications by participating in the Teaching Overseas Programme hosted by Sichuan University, where he gained valuable insights into effective teaching methodologies.

Mr. Zhang has been a dedicated educator in both state schools and private centers in London. Throughout his career, he has exhibited an unwavering commitment to creating a nurturing and intellectually stimulating learning environment for his students. With experience teaching students across different age groups, from Year 5 to GCSE and A-level classes, Mr. Zhang has consistently guided his students to exceptional achievements in their examinations, providing them with a strong foundation for future academic and personal success.

Starting from the new academic year in September 2023, we are delighted to announce that Mr. Taiqiang Zhang has been appointed as the headteacher of the Chinese Independent School of Tower Hamlets. With his remarkable adaptability, diligent work ethic, and infectious enthusiasm, Mr. Zhang is poised to lead our institution to new heights, ensuring a transformative educational journey for our students.

Ms. Wendy Cheung 張韻賢女士

For over a decade, Wendy has demonstrated a strong passion for working within the local community. Her commitment started when she obtained an NVQ Level 3 in Advice and Guidance in 2004, while working as a General Advisor. It was during this role that Wendy discovered her deep bond and enthusiasm for Welfare Rights, fueling her desire to make a meaningful difference in the lives of others.

Through her advocacy work, Wendy has organically developed a profound commitment to improving the daily lives and quality of life for her service users. She takes pride in ensuring the implementation of policies and procedures while actively challenging them when necessary. This comes to her effortlessly, as she finds great joy and fulfillment in witnessing the positive outcomes that empower and reward her service users.

From 2016 to 2022, Wendy served as the Quality Assurance Manager in the Domiciliary Care setting at the Chinese Association of Tower Hamlets. During this period, she successfully managed care packages and care workers, collaborating with various London local authorities and health statutory services. Wendy’s extensive experience has enriched her knowledge within the sector, merging her management skills and expertise. Furthermore, her Cantonese-speaking ability has significantly improved since joining the association, enabling her to conduct training sessions in both group and one-on-one settings, while effectively managing care workers from supervision to disciplinary stages.

Wendy’s multifaceted background and her commitment to making a positive impact in the lives of others make her an invaluable asset to our team. Her continuous growth, combined with her ability to bridge various aspects of care and management, positions her as a dedicated advocate for the well-being and empowerment of our service users.

Ms. Maggie Tsui 崔頌欣小姐

Maggie, a dedicated professional, graduated with a BSc (Hons) degree in Business Computing Systems in 2008. Since then, she has accumulated valuable experience in various administrative roles, including positions at Lister Community School and Newham College of Further Education. In these roles, Maggie provided essential services to both front-line and back-office operations.

For eight years, Maggie served as a Cantonese teacher at the Chinese Independent School, where her commitment and expertise led to her promotion as the Head of School. One of her key responsibilities was ensuring that all GCSE and A-Level students were registered for the correct exams at an appropriate exam center. When necessary, she collaborated with external agencies to facilitate the students’ exam registration, whether through public or private exam centers.

In 2016, Maggie joined the Chinese Association of Tower Hamlets as an administrator, primarily supporting the Home Care services and the center. Her passion lies in working within the Chinese community, utilizing her knowledge and skills to make a difference. Maggie is driven to advocate for those who face language barriers, ensuring their voices are heard and their needs are met.

Maggie’s dedication and commitment to serving the Chinese community, combined with her expertise in administration, make her an invaluable asset to our organization. With her passion for helping others and her desire to contribute to the well-being of individuals, Maggie plays a vital role in our mission to support and empower the community we serve.
